Sunderland 3-2 Bournemouth

Sunderland Show Again The Spirit Needed to Survive and Thrive in the Premier League

Sunderland came from two goals down after just 15 minutes on Saturday against Bournemouth to win 3-2. A game played with ferocious intensity and many goal-scoring chances saw the Black Cats refuse to lie down and be beaten.

In the past, a Sunderland team would have crumbled and been defeated by halftime; however, this team is made of sterner stuff and the spirit and determination seen against the likes of Everton and Arsenal recently, and at the end of last season, was on display again as they collected all three points and moved to fourth position in the league.

Sunderland vs Bournemouth: Black Cats Come From Two Behind to Beat Cherries

Two goals in the first 15 minutes gave Bournemouth what looked like a comfortable lead at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon; however, the Cherries allowed their hosts back into the game via a Enzo Le Fee penalty, and at halftime, with the score 2-1, many knew that this Sunderland team, who have the motto ‘Til The End’, would not give up until the final whistle.

Many times over the past 18 months, The Black Cats have secured draws and victories against the odds by never giving up until the end and against Bournemouth, it was no different.

Bertrand Traore scored the equaliser a minute after the restart, and then substitute Brian Brobbey, who scored a late equaliser against Arsenal, was on hand this time to give his team the lead, proving that Regis Le Bris’ men do not know when they are beaten.

Regis Le Bris on Victory And The Fans

Speaking soon after the game, Sunderland’s head coach praised his team and the fans. He said: “A great afternoon for our fans, for our players and the club. Starting the game 2-0 down and being able to win this game shows great character.”

On being worried at 2-0 down: “A bit to be fair. We made two mistakes and got punished really quickly because this league is so demanding.

“After that, we felt it was possible to create with the ball… maybe we were not efficient at the beginning but we thought it was possible to damage the defence.

“The fans are important, we know that. The energy in this stadium is huge and we tried to connect our game model with this energy because we can generate momentum and change the dynamic of the game.”

Sunderland will need to continue to fight to the end with a tough run of fixtures coming up in December, including Liverpool and Manchester City away from home and the Wear-Tyne derby against Newcastle.
