The Bilal El Khannouss saga has been a prominent aspect of Leicester City’s summer transfer window. Despite featuring in City’s first three fixtures, the Moroccan remains a target for several clubs. A well-reported release clause has since expired, which may hinder the midfielder’s chances of moving.

Bilal El Khannouss: Crystal Palace Target
As reported by David Ornstein, Crystal Palace have approached the Foxes over a possible move for El Khannouss. Oliver Glasner’s side are looking to strengthen following a stellar 2024/25 campaign, which saw them clinch the FA Cup. The Eagles even claimed the Community Shield earlier this month through a penalty shootout victory over Liverpool.

Ornstein adds that there has been no bid as of yet; only contact between the two clubs. El Khannouss could be a replacement for Tottenham Hotspur target Eberechi Eze, who seems likely to depart.
El Khannouss’ exit would mark City’s fourth of the window as they look to freshen up the side. Mads Hermansen and Wilfred Ndidi have both already left, whilst Harry Winks and James Justin remain targets for Premier League clubs.
How Does This Affect Leicester City
With the season underway and the Foxes struggling in their opening games, selling players is still important. Marti Cifuentes hasn’t been given enough time thus far, and also needs to add his own profiles. Therefore, completing these deals will help him improve upon City’s poor start to the season.

Throughout his three appearances this season, El Khannouss hasn’t necessarily impressed. This may suggest that he wants a move, as his attitudes have also been off. Cifuentes even subbed the Moroccan off at halftime during today’s clash with Preston North End, which further sums up his struggles.
However, he is still a player with clear quality and has been prominent within the system. Whether it be dropping deep and rotating with the full-back, or providing quality from set-pieces, El Khannouss has still been a bright spark. As a result, finding a replacement in such a short time could become problematic for the Foxes.
