Chelsea Must Wait on Bayern Munich to Unlock Xavi Simons Deal

Chelsea have already been active in the summer transfer window with the signings of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jorrel Hato already proving quite useful. That hasn’t stopped them from looking to make further moves for attacking talent like Xavi Simons. After all their recent spending however, the Blues are reportedly in a position where they need Bayern Munich to help them unlock said deal.

Bayern Munich Decision Could Spur On Xavi Simons Transfer

Bayern’s Role

The Times have reported on the Bavarian’s current interest in replacing Kinsley Coman. The attacker is expected to complete a move to Saudi Arabia soon with Vincent Kompany’s side eyeing up replacements. The main focus for Chelsea fans will be the escape route for Christopher Nkunku who is on the radar of the Bundesliga champions, but is not said to be the only option.

The Times notes that Nkunku does not want to return to RB Leipzig, something that could have acted as a counterweight for Simons to go to England; instead, his team will have to wait on Bayern’s decision.

Chelsea Need Outgoings

As mentioned by The Times. The Blues are looking to complete deals for Alejandro Garnacho and Dutch star Simons. But, they need outgoings to happen before they can complete any deals. This means they are reliant on the Bavarians opting to chase Nkunku and agreeing to a deal before they can pick up a new attacker. The Club World Cup winners are at the whims of the market after spending so much to add players over the past few windows.

This will no doubt become more drawn out as any Nkunku deal would involve heavy negotiations around a fee. The German club will be aware of the Blues’ rush to sign other attackers, meaning they can try and drive down the value of the French attacker.

One thing is for sure, this will be another summer window where Chelsea enter the season in suboptimal manner. The future of some players is still up in the air while they wait to add two key attackers to the squad. With their campaign starting on Sunday, this is all coming much too late to benefit Enzo Maresca who will have to change his lineups to fit outgoings and incomings.
