With Leicester City’s season opener against Sheffield Wednesday just nine days away, their first outgoing looks complete. Conor Coady arrived in the East Midlands under Enzo Maresca back in 2023, ahead of the club’s return to the Championship. After fallouts with managers and the fans, the centre-back looks set to move to Championship rivals Wrexham.

Conor Coady: Deal Imminent
As reported by Tom Collomosse, Coady’s medical is now complete with the Welsh club. Phil Parkinson’s side won promotion from League One last season with a second-place finish, which marked back-to-back promotions in the Football League.

Collomosse also adds that the England international should sign imminently. A deal that works well for both parties, especially as a £2 million fee will help City’s bid to bolster their squad.
With almost 200 Premier League appearances, Coady will add a vast amount of experience to the Wrexham backline. With a two-year deal agreed, there will be expectations for him to play a major part in the ambitious project to take the club to the top flight of English Football.
How Does This Affect Leicester City
As mentioned previously, the deal works for both sides. The Foxes need to reduce their squad size in order to bring in new arrivals and meet the needs of manager Marti Cifuentes. Removing a player like Coady, who has made just 43 appearances over two seasons, is good business, especially considering his high wages.

Although it helps the Foxes’ preparations for the upcoming campaign, the deal also helps strengthen a potential rival. Wrexham are already on the verge of breaking their record fee for a third time this summer, as Nathan Broadhead looks even closer to his move. Despite the East Midlands outfit recently being in the Premier League, Parkinson’s side looks competitive, and if a points deduction comes to fruition, then both clubs could be in the running for a chance at promotion.
From pre-season, Cifuentes’ side appears to be a fresh, youthful, and energetic team, willing to press and take risks. A standout issue was the centre-back partnership of Coady and Jannik Vestergaard. Therefore, the departure will also suit the Spaniard’s philosophy of lowering the squad’s average age and providing academy graduates opportunities.
