Nottingham Forest Agree £25.9 Million Deal for ‘Major Talent’

Nottingham Forest Agree ‘Record’ Contract for Star: ‘I Want to Be Part of Something Special’

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has signed a new three-year deal at the City Ground. Tottenham Hotspur had reportedly triggered a £60 million release clause in the midfielder’s contract on July 10, which Forest claim amounted to an ‘illegal’ approach, but the 25-year-old has now committed his future to the Midlands side.

Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White Rejects Tottenham and Signs New Three-Year Deal

What Do We Know So Far?

Gibbs-White has put pen to paper on what has been described as a “record deal” at Forest, extending his stay at the City Ground until the summer of 2028. Tying down the England international, who is one of the club’s most important and influential players, was heralded as a ‘statement of intent’ by the Tricky Trees.

Tottenham had reportedly booked in a medical for Gibbs-White after they appeared to trigger the midfielder’s release clause on July 10, but Forest have now silenced the speculation around the attacker’s future. The club have been considering legal action against the North London side, claiming a confidentiality agreement around Gibbs-White’s release clause was breached.

The 25-year-old arrived at the City Ground from Wolverhampton Wanderers for more than £40 million in 2022, and has since become one of the club’s most important players, scoring 18 goals and recording 28 assists in 118 games. The Englishman enjoyed a standout season last year as Forest qualified for European football for the first time in 30 years, and will now continue his adventure with the Midlands side.

What Has Gibbs-White Said?

Following the contract announcement, Gibbs-White said: “I’ve felt at home at Forest from the moment I arrived. The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable.

“I believe in what we are building here. I want to be part of something special.”

The midfielder has joined his teammates in Portugal for the club’s pre-season training camp after being granted additional time off due to a private family matter, and has since featured in friendly matches against Monaco and Fulham. His decision to extend his stay at the City Ground comes as a welcome boost for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who have already lost one key player in Anthony Elanga this summer.

A Painful Misstep For Tottenham

Tottenham were one of a number of clubs keen on signing the former Wolves man this summer, with Manchester City also expressing an interest, but the situation appears to have gone from bad to worse for Thomas Frank’s side. Not only have the club missed out on one of their top targets this summer, but they are facing the possibility of legal action over their conduct.

Forest shut off all communication with Spurs over the incident and have made it clear to both the London club and Gibbs-White’s agent that they reserve the right to mount legal action. Tottenham remain in the market for a number ten, and have already signed Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus as attacking reinforcements in this transfer window.
