How West Ham Have Lined Up Recently

Potter has lined up with West Ham in a 3-4-2-1, shifting from Julen Lopetegui’s formation.

Alphonse Areola is the number-one goalkeeper for the Hammers. Lucasz Fabianski replaced the injured Areola for nine consecutive matches before getting injured in a 1-0 away win against Juric’s Southampton.

Against Brentford, Potter adapted his defence to play a back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Max Kilman and Emerson. The Hammers are yet to keep a clean sheet under Potter, with their last coming in a 1-0 away win against Southampton. Jean-Clair Todibo is expected to return to the starting lineup.

Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek started as CDMs, with Guido Rodriguez making odd appearances here and there. That being said, it is rumoured that the Argentinian will have his contract cancelled, prompting a move back to a La Liga club. Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus have played on the wings with Bowen playing up front due to injuries to attacking players with Crysencio Summerville slotting in when his side has suspensions or injuries.

Lucas Paqueta and Carlos Soler play as the attacking midfielder between the wingers albeit the Brazilian is currently out with an injury. Niklas Fullkrug hasn’t started a match since Potter’s first match in charge, which was the defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

West Ham’s Recent Form

Potter hasn’t had the best start to life in East London, winning just one of the six matches he has managed since replacing Julen Lopetegui.

In his last away game, Potter returned to Stamford Bridge, where he was sacked by Chelsea two seasons ago. Despite taking the lead just before halftime through Bowen, West Ham couldn’t hold on, as a Pedro Neto strike and a Wan-Bissaka own goal secured all three points for the Blues.

In their most recent match, the Hammers suffered a 1-0 defeat to Brentford at the London Stadium. Kevin Schade scored the only goal within the opening four minutes in a relatively even contest. The result left West Ham 16th in the Premier League, ten points clear of the relegation zone.

West Ham Injuries to Consider

Potter will have five injuries to consider in his team selection. Paquetá is doubtful for the match due to minor injuries, while Vladimir Coufal and Füllkrug—who joined from Borussia Dortmund in the summer—are both sidelined with hamstring issues.

Álvarez is expected to be available as he recovers from a muscle injury. However, Michail Antonio and Summerville face a much longer wait, with both ruled out until May.
