Multiple Premier League Clubs Compete for ‘Prodigy’ Forward After Rejecting Big Six Move

Minutes are the most precious currency for young players. So, the thought of a transfer to an elite European outfit can often be better than the reality. Mathys Tel trails many other players in the offensive roster at his current club and could be on the move to an outfit in the Premier League.

Mathys Tel Teases Transfers to Premier League

Tel Turns Down Tottenham Bid

Fabrizio Romano reported that Tel has rejected the proposal of a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were willing to pay a £50 million fee for the forward, who has several suitors in the winter window.

Tel might have turned down Spurs to pick a different team in the Premier League. On January 26, 2025, Romano stated that several other clubs are looking into a loan. Cross-city rivals Chelsea, who could relieve the burden that lies on Nicolas Jackson in the attack, are one of the interested parties.

Tel courts the interest of many clubs, begging for an answer to his frustrations at Bayern Munich.

Tel Tired of Role at Bayern Munich?

The “French prodigy” claimed Eduardo Camavinga’s record as the youngest player to represent Rennes. His talent took the attention of Bayern Munich, moving to Germany as a 17-year-old.

In August 2022, Tel had already become a record-breaker for the Bavarians. The teenager is the club’s youngest ever goal scorer in a DFB-Pokal fixture, and also netted in his first Bundesliga start.

Since his debut, the teenager has worked with three managers at the club: Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel, and Vincent Kompany. However, none of these men have earmarked him as a starting figure. He has received only 1567 minutes for the team across two and a half campaigns of league football.

Kompany chose to start Tel in a midweek Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava. He did not acknowledge rumours about the teenager’s exit, saying: “These are stories from outside the club. It has nothing to do with my job. Whoever deserves to play will play. I have no ulterior motives.”

However, history would indicate that many more chances are not coming. It might be time for Tel to turn his talents to another squad and the Premier League looks to be a fertile ground for his future.
