‘Decision Up to Player’: Chelsea Face Competition From Seven Clubs for Forward ‘With Enormous Potential’

Chelsea have remained surprisingly quiet in the 2025 winter transfer window, with their decision to recall Trevoh Chalobah from loan being the only significant move. But they still seem to have an interest in Bayern Munich man Mathys Tel.

Chelsea Face Stiff Competition for Tel

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Blues continue to have a desire to sign the young forward to bolster their attacking line for the future. However, it has also been added that the French forward is attracting interest from seven clubs who are willing to sign him on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The journalist also claims that the situation with Tel’s future could change after he’s received zero minutes of playing time in Bayern Munich’s last three matches. Romano claims that the 19-year-old’s situation will be assessed in the next days and that the “decision still up to the player” if he’s aspiring for a new journey in his career. However, Romano also reveals that Tel’s personal objective has been to stay and succeed as a Bayern player, which is why it might be tough for any team to sign him anytime soon.

How Can Tel Fit In At Chelsea?

The 19-year-old forward, who joined Bayern Munich in 2022, is quite a versatile player who can play in multiple roles to help out his side. He is naturally a centre-forward (no.9), but can also easily fit in as a left-winger for his side if absolutely necessary. In fact, Tel has played in six of his 13 appearances so far in the 2024/25 season on the left-wing for Vincent Kompany’s side.

The teenager is, however, facing a tough season because he is yet to score or assist in his 13 games and has only started in three games for the Bundesliga heavyweights. Tel can add more depth to Chelsea’s attack, as the Blues have been reported to consider him as a player with “enormous potential”. He can be a strong competition for Jadon Sancho on the left-wing and Nicolas Jackson up-front, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be sealed anytime soon.
