Barcelona have made a bright impression in their first few months under new head coach Hansi Flick and sit top of the La Liga table heading into the final weeks of 2024. They are always looking to strengthen the team and have reportedly taken a positive step in their hopes of signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

Last Word on Football understands Barcelona have made an initial contractual proposal to the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back to join them after his contract expires at the end of June 2025.

Romano further claims that talks are in an advanced stage between the two parties and that the La Liga giants are currently ahead of Bayern Munich in the pursuit of Tah. The 26-year-old German international is believed to have been present at the meeting as he ponders on a potential move to Spain next year.

Tah played a prominent role in helping Bayer Leverkusen win the 2023/24 Bundesliga title in unstoppable fashion, helping them go the entire league campaign unbeaten. The towering centre-back featured in 31 league games last season, keeping 13 clean sheets and scoring four goals.

The German giants appear to be eager to see him move abroad to a club like Barcelona over potentially joining Bayern Munich if he leaves them, as their CEO Fernando Caro hinted earlier this year by stating: “If I try to put myself in Jonathan’s position, it might be more interesting for him if he wants to move or would end up moving, perhaps not to move within Germany. Maybe it is more interesting to move abroad.” Tah, who is rumoured to be on a £45,00-a-week wage package at Leverkusen, has made 33 appearances for Germany and impressed at Euro 2024.
