Wolves Star the Latest Wideman to Become a Blue

Fabrizio Romano backed up Fabrice Hawkins’ shocking exclusive that Chelsea had agreed a deal for Neto, before David Ornstein chimed in not long after that the Blues had agreed a fee totalling £53 million for the 24-year old, with personal terms not believed to be an issue.

If the move goes through, Neto will join a stacked cohort of wingers which includes Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Tyrique George, with Estevao and Kendry Paez also set to join next summer.

The Leadup To the Transfer

Romano reported back in July that the Blues were targeting another winger to add to their squad, with the Europa Conference League expected to add an extra load onto their schedule in 2024/25 and after failing to secure a deal for Michael Olise, there was a strong feeling that the club would keep on in their chase for a new star player.

Now, with just nine days until Chelsea’s opening league game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, the Conference League first-timers look to have got their man, who Romano says was top of their list for winger targets.

A Wolves player since 2019, Portuguese international Neto has shown that he has all the ability and potential to be one of the best wide men in the league. He has been referred to as a “dangerous player” when on top form, something the Blues know all too well.

However, injuries have hampered him in seasons gone by, most notably last campaign. He lasted the first ten league games of 2023/24 – having at that point accumulated one goal and seven assists – before he suffered a serious hamstring injury which sidelined him for just under two months.

Upon his return in late December, he lasted until March before he sustained the same injury and missed another two months, returning on the last day of the term as a substitute against Liverpool.

A fantastic player when fit, Chelsea fans should be very excited at the prospect of Neto joining the club, especially given their disadvantage of not having Champions League or Europa League football and they will be hoping they can uncover the best version of the player who has demonstrated on multiple occasions that he can be a very dangerous threat to any opponent.
