United Will Offer Jonny Evans a One-Year Deal
Evans surprisingly joined Erik ten Hag’s side on a short-term deal in July after training with the squad for a few weeks. The defender left Leicester City at the end of last season after they were relegated and was a free agent.
The deal at the time was only for a short duration to enable the Northern Ireland man to play in the pre-season friendlies. There was no real intention of handing him a long-term deal. However, the club’s latest injury crisis has changed the situation.

In the Red Devils’ Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, their centre-back, Raphael Varane went off with an injury. Later tests revealed that the Frenchman will be out of action for a few weeks. This setback so close to the end of the transfer window has forced the United hierarchy to rethink their transfer decisions regarding the players who looked set to leave the club.
Stone reported that Evans is now “certain” to get an extension and sign a one-year deal with the three-time Champions League winners. Maguire could also potentially stay at the club after being linked with a move away for a major part of the summer window.

Evans’ Previous Spell at Old Trafford
The Belfast-born player is no stranger to the Old Trafford-based side. He is a youth product of the club’s academy and started his senior career with the Devils, spending almost a decade, from 2006 to 2015, with the Premier League giants before leaving for West Brom.
He made close to 200 appearances for the Red Devils and won ten major trophies with the club, including one Champions League title and three Premier League successes. His experience and familiarity with the club could prove to be vital for Ten Hag in dealing with the injury issues.
