Barcelona have seemingly been dealt a major blow in their efforts to sign a new quality midfielder after having recently lost Ousmane Dembele, who opted to leave them to join Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis.

Barcelona Face Bernardo Silva Blow

What Did Silva Respond to New Manchester City Offer?

Fabrizio Romano has given some news regarding the Portuguese midfielder that the La Liga giant’s supporters probably won’t like at all. He has confirmed that Bernardo Silva has verbally agreed to sign a new contract with Manchester City to extend his stay at the club.

Romano has noted that the 26-year-old “Formally confirmed his decision” to put pen to paper over a new deal with the club, despite some uncertainty creeping up on his future. The Premier League champions now expect him to sign his contract by the end of this week, it is also claimed.

It’s also added that Silva is likely to sign a new three-year contract with Pep Guardiola’s side after having become an important player under the manager. Silva was claimed to be Barcelona’s ‘priority summer target’ and they really wanted to sign him this summer, despite knowing all the time that a deal would be difficult to pull off due to their financial issues.

What Else Is Barcelona Working On?

Even though it now looks like Xavi Hernandez’s side will not be able to sign Silva anytime soon, they keep working on other deals after starting their La Liga campaign with a frustrating 0-0 draw against Getafe. The Blaugrana are reportedly discussing a possible loan deal for Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo, who has fallen out of favour under Guardiola.

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has also voiced his desire to join Barcelona this summer, but it remains to be seen if that deal can be done anytime soon. The Blaugrana have made a few signings this summer, bringing in Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer along with Inigo Martinez. They also signed midfielder Oriol Romeu to buff up their midfield after Sergio Busquets left. With that being said, they should now probably accept their fate of not being able to sign Silva.
