The Manchester giants are in the middle of an exodus with several players already leaving this summer. It seems like the robust midfielder won’t be one of those making an exit from Old Trafford. West Ham’s Bid Rejected

The Hammers reportedly had a bid rejected for the 26-year-old. The bid was in the region of £30 million which was less than the Red Devils asking price. This further strengthens the chances of the box-to-box midfielder staying at Old Trafford.

The Irons lost their club captain and star midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal at the beginning of the transfer window and have been looking for replacements since. After their bid for McTominay was turned down they appear to have focused their efforts elsewhere and have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign English midfielder, James Ward-Prowse.

What Role Could Scott McTominay Play Next Season in Erik ten Hag’s Side?

With the arrival of top-quality midfielders, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last season, the United midfielder found regular playing time hard to come by. The club’s youth academy product still managed to play 39 times deputising for the absence of regular starters. One of the biggest assets of his game is his versatility. This trait has led to him being regarded as the “ideal” midfielder.

The central midfielder can operate in a box-to-box role or in a more defensive role. He started his career as a forward at youth level and possesses the skill set to excel in a more advanced midfield position. The Scottish international has a powerful long-range shot and impressive close control.

McTominay will not be a regular starter for Ten Hag but could play a vital role throughout the season. The number 39 will be vital for the Dutch manager to cope with fixture congestion during parts of the season or to step up in case of an injury to one of the starting midfielders.
