‘Not Far Away’: Sources Confident in Hammers Picking up ‘Dominant’ Player

West Ham

West Ham have been active in the transfer window this summer, they are building a squad that hopes to not have the domestic struggles they did last season. Also, the team plans to have an impressive Europa League campaign following their Europa Conference League victory.

The next player that could join The Hammers is Manchester United and England national team centre-back, Harry Maguire. A Manchester United source reported that the two teams are not far from reaching a potential deal and that there is optimism it will be completed.

Maguire Deal is closer than McTominay Deal

Additionally reported by Melissa Reddy and Sky Sports, West Ham’s pursuit of Scott McTominay is not bearing as much fruit as their Maguire quest. As the Maguire deal nears a conclusion, The Irons might have to come to terms with only getting one of their target players as it is “not far away” per Reddy.

This purchase would still be a good deal for Londoners. They need a stellar defence to thwart the front lines of the top Premier League and European clubs they will be facing. Despite some criticisms, the 30-year-old can bring exactly that having been called “dominant and dictating” by Erik ten Hag for some of his performances last term.

Almost There

Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on this story. The two teams have agreed to a £30 million fee for the defender according to the Italian. There are still key points not yet complete for the agreement, and the personal terms with the English centre-back will have to be discussed, but the move is close to completion.

Transfer Price Finally Agreed on

Reddy had additional input on the deal, according to her report, West Ham had offered the Red Devils £30 million for Maguire. That figure is £10 million short of the £40 million United wants for him.
