Chelsea Aiming to Sign £40 Million-Rated ‘Excellent’ Goalkeeper as Part of Major Overhaul

Chelsea are working on getting a deal done to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana in the summer transfer window, claims The Telegraph’s Matt Law. The Cameroonian no.1 appears to be at the top of their reported goalkeeper wishlist for the summer.

How Much Chelsea Need to Pay For Onana

The Blues are reported to have plans to invest heavily in further improving their squad, even after spending a lot of money on transfers in the recent windows – including a club-record fee to sign Enzo Fernandez in January.

Law adds that Chelsea are now trying to get themselves in pole position to sign Onana, who has been linked with many other clubs. They’re particularly keen on signing the Cameroon international after seeing him impress for Inter and helping them get to the Champions League semi-finals.

It’s also stated that the Blues are likely to have a pay a £40 million fee to get Inter to sell him and believe the 27-year-old salary demands could be fulfilled as well. Onana – who was praised as an “excellent” goalkeeper earlier this season, has kept 16 clean sheets in 35 appearances this season in all competitions – including six in 10 Champions League games.

It appears Chelsea could be looking to overhaul their goalkeeper position by signing another goalkeeper, even after having expensive ones like Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy at the club. Law adds that the London side are expected to sell Mendy after reports claimed that he failed to agree a new contract with them this season.

The report also states that any serious bids from other clubs to sign Kepa will be considered, with Chelsea deciding if the Spaniard will stay next season. Kepa has heavily featured for the Blues all through this season, playing under Graham Potter and interim manager Frank Lampard and has kept 12 clean sheets in 35 appearances across all competitions.
