‘Initial Moves’: Manchester United Begin Chase for Record-Breaking Striker

Harry Kane interest - Manchester Unites squad huddle during penalty shootout

Manchester United have started to take the first steps to prepare for negotiations to sign Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane, claims the Telegraph’s Matt Law. The Englishman became the Lilywhites’ all-time top scorer earlier this season and has been their best performer in a tough campaign.

Exact Details to Be Finalised

It has been reported recently that Kane remains one of the strikers that the Red Devils are aiming to sign in the summer window, but they realize that it will not be easy to sign a prized striker like him from a fellow Premier League side like Tottenham.

Law adds that United have started their “initial moves” and due diligence over Kane’s price tag and how they’ll be able to handle negotiations with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. The club are aware that they can’t get into a cagey transfer war for Kane and allow Levy to force them to go until the end of the summer transfer window in the hopes of signing Kane.

It’s also stated that the Spurs chairman is facing a nightmare in the prospect of having United make a major bid to sign the striker, as he might have to make the decision to either sell the Englishman in the summer or see him leave for free next year once his contract expires.

Huge Fee Attached

The Red Devils are looking to make a move for the Englishman early in the summer window, which will give them enough time to secure a deal with Levy or go for other targets if they’re kept hanging for a long time. It’s also stated that they will probably have to pay a higher premium to sign the forward over foreign clubs.

Law suggests that United could have to pay £100 million to sign Kane – which would make him their club-record signing. Moreover, it’s been stated recently that Spurs might also look to demand £100 million in one up-front payment to let go of the striker. The Spurs striker, who was hailed as ‘exceptional’ by German legend Jurgen Klinsmann earlier this year, has scored 26 goals in all competitions for the Lilywhites this season.
