Manchester United have been handed an enormous boost with the news reported by Samuel Luckhurst that “undroppable” star Marcus Rashford has “travelled with the squad” to Newcastle ahead of their vital game against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United. The Englishman is the Red Devils’ man in form at the moment, and for him to be missing in a game where a loss would see the Magpies surpass United in the table would be catastrophic for Erik ten Hag.

United Already Suffering From Absences
Thanks to some impressive form this season, United are still in all remaining cup competitions after winning the Carabou Cup in February. This means that their schedule is pretty hectic, and this has, as would be expected, resulted in a lengthy injury list.

Christian Eriksen, who joined for free last summer and became a mainstay in the starting lineup under Ten Hag, has been injured for some time. The Dane sustained an ankle injury after a nasty tackle by Andy Carroll in an FA Cup match against Reading in late January and is not expected back for at least another week or two. Fellow midfielder Marcel Sabitzer is a doubt after having picked up a knock on international duty last week, while Donny van de Beek is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Among United’s other injury-related absences are Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, and Raphael Varane, although the latter two are likely to be involved in some way on Sunday.
Additionally, star player Casemiro picked up his second red card of the campaign last month and will serve the second of his four matches of suspension when the Red Devils play Newcastle.
As such, having Rashford available is an enormous boost for Ten Hag, and allows United fans to be a little more comfortable heading into a vital match in the race for the top four.
The attacker was a major doubt having withdrawn from last week’s international matches through injury, and given his importance to the team it is unlikely that Ten Hag would’ve risked a long-term injury by starting Rashford when unfit, but this news is certainly a promising sign from the United camp.
