How Wales Have Lined-Up Recently
Wales lined up in a 3-5-2 formation for the first two matches of the tournament. Rob Page, the Welsh coach, used the same 11 players on both occasions. However, after the red card to Wayne Hennessey, Leicester City’s No.1 Danny Ward takes his place in goal. Page is expected to use the same system as before.
The Welsh backline remains the same with Rennes man Joe Rodon being the central defender of the three. Despite his poor showing, in the 2-0 defeat to Iran, former Gunner Aaron Ramsey is set to lead the midfield. Neco Williams and Burnley’s Connor Roberts provide the width as wing-backs.
Daniel James replaces his Fulham teammate Harry Wilson in the midfield and is the only outfield change in the starting lineup. The ever-reliable Gareth Bale starts up top alongside 6’5″ striker Kieffer Moore.
Wales Injuries to Consider
Thankfully for Rob Page, there are no injuries in the Welsh squad. The only player unavailable for selection is Hennessey on account of his red card against Iran.
Wales Recent Form and Tactics
The Dragons’ loss to Iran puts them at risk of not winning a single game in a major tournament for the first time in their history. The Welshmen however need no motivation to perform well as they face neighbours and longtime rivals, England.
Most of Wales’ attacking play is focused around their talisman Bale. He is not only capable of playing on the shoulders of the defenders and making runs behind, but also as a target man attacking the crosses from Williams and Roberts. Moore brings the physicality and aerial threat to match up against Harry Maguire.

Daniel James’ pace will be a key asset and adds a different dimension to the Wales attack. Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson could also make an impact off the bench. Ramsey plays as a box-to-box midfielder and will no doubt give his all in the midfield, as Wales aim to make it to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in over 60 years. Defensively, Rob Page’s men play 5-3-2 and will be hoping that their strength in numbers can stop the star-studded English attack.
Wales Predicted Lineup
The predicted lineup in a 3-4-3 formation is as follows:
GK – Danny Ward
LCB – Ben Davies
CB – Joe Rodon
RCB – Chris Mepham
LWB – Neco Williams
CM – Ethan Ampadu
CM – Aaron Ramsey
RWB – Connor Roberts
CAM – Daniel James
