Premier League Predictions Matchweek 14 – Tottenham and Leicester Embarrassed

Premier League match ball sitting on Rainbow Laces plinth

Just a few matchweeks remain until the month-and-a-half-long World Cup break, making the next few Premier League games absolutely vital. The table is still exceptionally close, and in just over a couple of weeks we could be seeing numerous managerial changes and enormous swings in the league’s standings, with Liverpool currently closer to the bottom of the table than the top, and Newcastle United and Fulham exceeding all expectations. Five Last Word on Football staff will be providing their Premier League predictions for matchweek  14, trying to foresee the unforeseeable in such an erratic start to the season.

Premier League Predictions Matchweek 14

Leicester City vs Manchester City

Jamie Rooke: 2-4

Dan Hepburn: 1-3

Joe Blackburn: 0-5

Jordan Hackett: 2-2

Joseph Howes: 1-3

Leicester City are gradually growing into this season, with manager Brendan Rodgers driving his team towards a couple of victories in recent weeks. This weekend they face off against the steamroller that is Manchester City. Expect plenty of chance creation against Leicester’s relatively weak back line, with Haaland getting on the scoresheet in a 5-0 demolition job by Pep Guardiola’s side.

Joe Blackburn

Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur

Jamie Rooke: 1-2

Dan Hepburn: 0-2

Joe Blackburn: 1-0

Jordan Hackett: 1-1

Joseph Howes: 1-1

Having lost their last two games – and three of their last five – Tottenham will be thankful that their next opponent is a Bournemouth side who are not at their best, are missing multiple key players, and are still without a permanent manager. The Cherries have been solid under interim boss Gary O’Neil, but it is yet to be seen who – if anyone – will take over from the Englishman, and that will likely remain unknown until the World Cup break. Recent games have seen the South Coast side on the wrong end of many highly controversial VAR calls, but their performances have not been breathtaking either. This match will likely be a pretty cagey affair and could well end all square. 1-1.

Brentford vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Jamie Rooke: 2-2

Dan Hepburn: 2-1

Joe Blackburn: 2-0

Jordan Hackett: 3-0

Joseph Howes: 1-0

Brentford and Wolves both lost 4-0 last time out in the league, to a managerless Aton Villa and struggling Leicester respectively. It’s safe to say that both teams will be looking to resurface their best. The recent form of the Bees may concern Thomas Frank with only one win in the last six games. Diego Costa has featured in five games since his return to England but has failed to convert any chances, although the Black Country side will be relying on his services to prevent them embroiling in a relegation battle come the business end of the season.

Dan Hepburn

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Chelsea

Jamie Rooke: 0-1

Dan Hepburn: 0-2

Joe Blackburn: 1-3

Jordan Hackett: 1-2

Joseph Howes: 0-2

Brighton have struggled for form since Graham Potter left for Chelsea. He was replaced at the AMEX by Roberto De Zerbi, who remains winless. Potter returns on Saturday afternoon, looking to continue his good start to life at Stamford Bridge and can be fancied to keep that going with a narrow win here.

Crystal Palace vs Southampton

Jamie Rooke: 1-1

Dan Hepburn: 0-0

Joe Blackburn: 1-0

Jordan Hackett: 0-1

Joseph Howes: 0-0

Southampton taking points off of a rampant Arsenal side tells us all not to underestimate them. They have another London team up next in the form of Crystal Palace who really need a win to arrest this slump in form. By these predictions though, they’ll have to settle for a singular point.

Jamie Rooke

Newcastle United vs Aston Villa

Jamie Rooke: 2-1

Dan Hepburn: 2-0

Joe Blackburn: 2-0

Jordan Hackett: 2-1

Joseph Howes: 3-2

Newcastle recorded a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last week, continuing a rich vein of form. Saturday’s opponents Aston Villa got back to form following Steven Gerrard’s exit as manager, beating Brentford 4-0. They have made a glamorous appointment in former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, however, due to work permit delays, he won’t take charge of this game. Newcastle can be fancied to take this one.

Fulham vs Everton

Jamie Rooke: 3-1

Dan Hepburn: 0-0

Joe Blackburn: 1-0

Jordan Hackett: 1-1

Joseph Howes: 2-2

It was some weekend last time out for newly promoted teams as Nottingham Forest edged out Liverpool and Fulham prevailed at Elland Road. Another tough test awaits the Cottagers with Dominic Calvert-Lewin back amongst the goals for Everton. The Toffees are looking good but the home factor may come up trumps for Marco Silva’s men.

Jamie Rooke

Liverpool vs Leeds United

Jamie Rooke: 2-0

Dan Hepburn: 1-0

Joe Blackburn: 3-1

Jordan Hackett: 5-0

Joseph Howes: 2-1

In spite of some relatively bumpy form at the start of the season, Liverpool still have the potential to steamroll their opponents, seemingly at will. On the contrary, Leeds United haven’t won a match since the end of August, and Jesse Marsch’s job is coming under more and more pressure. I foresee a 3-1 home win, but it could be a lot worse for the Whites.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest

Jamie Rooke: 2-1

Dan Hepburn: 1-0

Joe Blackburn: 3-1

Jordan Hackett: 2-2

Joseph Howes: 2-0

A contest between top and bottom. The league leaders are currently in their worst form of recent weeks and will pull out all the stops to avoid three successive losses. After sharing the spoils away at Brighton and beating Liverpool in their latest outing, it is currently looking up for Steve Cooper and his men. This match may be closer than many expect and a singular goal could be the difference between the two sides.

Dan Hepburn

Manchester United vs West Ham United

Jamie Rooke: 3-0

Dan Hepburn: 3-1

Joe Blackburn: 1-2

Jordan Hackett: 3-1

Joseph Howes: 2-0

Coming into this game, both Manchester United and West Ham are in fairly decent form. Erik ten Hag’s side have just endured a challenging run, which included matches against Manchester City, Newcastle, Tottenham, and Chelsea, with some success, meanwhile the Hammers are looking a little stronger following their slow start to the campaign, but this has not come without the odd slip-up. This game could be fairly close fought, but in the end, United should have enough to get over the line. 2-0.
