Groups of Death

Emma Hayes and her side will come up against the Grace Geyoro-led PSG and Real Madrid, who were quite active in the summer transfer window that saw them pick up Caroline Weir. Last year, the Blues tumbled out of the competition in the group stage when they failed to beat Wolfsburg and Juventus, things will be even tougher for them this year if they want to avoid the same fate.

The Gunners face a tough task of their own as they deal with eight-time women’s Champions League winners and 15-time Division 1 Feminine winners Lyon, who may be reeling from the loss of Kadeisha Buchanan and injury to Griedge Mbock. They will also have to contend with a Juventus side who gave Chelsea a run for their money last season.

Despite their tough draws, both teams will be happy to avoid Barcelona who seem better than ever after kicking off their league campaign with 13 goals and three wins.

It is sure to be a long campaign as some of Europe’s finest square off, although many believe that the trophy will be headed to Spain, and specifically Catalans, once again this year.
