A Change in Approach for Chelsea?
The sacking of Thomas Tuchel seemed to suggest that despite a change of owners, Chelsea are going to be run in the same ruthless manner as they were under Roman Abramovich.

However, the resulting appointment of Graham Potter suggested otherwise. He is not an instant impact manager, unlike many of those that have come before him, and is instead a project manager. He has a vision and a plan, but those are worthless without the time needed to implement his ideas. If the appointment has been thoroughly thought out, it suggests a change in approach by the new owner.

Fabrizio Romano has also stated that the new sporting director will “work together with Graham Potter on Chelsea strategies” regarding transfers. This further indicates that Todd Boehly intends to switch the focus at Chelsea from instant success to long-term growth.

This would come as welcomed news to many Chelsea fans, with sections of the support growing ever-more frustrated with the hire and fire policy at the West London club. Graham Potter is an excellent coach and is more than capable of keeping Chelsea at the top of both domestic and European football, as long as he is given the time to do so.
The fact that Todd Boehly is scrutinising the options available, and ensuring that a sporting director who shares Graham Potter’s ideas is appointed is a very good sign and suggests that this could be the start of a new strategy regarding managers at Chelsea.
