Swansea City Vital Goalscoring Duo Not for Sale Amidst Leeds United Interest

Only three teams are currently below Swansea City in the Championship standings. It has been a rough start to the season for Russell Martin’s men, and losing either of their front two would make matters worse. This is very unlikely though, Ian Mitchelmore reporting that Swansea City duo Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe will remain at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City Duo Staying Put

A Tough Start to the Season for Swansea City

Coventry City have had issues with their pitch and so have played less games, making their positioning at the foot of the table more understandable. But, Swansea City sitting just one point above the relegation zone, no matter how early it is in the season, isn’t what Swans fans would have expected. There are evident teething problems in the early stages of Russell Martins’ reign.

Three of the Jacks’ last four goals in the Championship have come from either Michael Obafemi or Joel Piroe. The latter was on target at the weekend away at Stoke City only for yet another goal to break their hearts. It was Tyrese Campbell, son of Kevin, who turned three points into one for Swansea City. Rewinding to a couple of weeks ago, two own goals after the 90th minute saw the Welsh side again throw away a pair of points.

Back to Piroe and Obafemi and it was the former who had the highest profile suitor. The Dutch forward had Leeds United of the Premier League keeping tabs on him as well as Watford previously. Meanwhile it was newly relegated Burnley who were hot on the heels of Obafemi as they begin their Vincent Kompany revolution, but “Swansea remain determined to keep hold of Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe” according to Mitchelmore.

Leeds United and Co. Not Done Yet

The biggest story regarding Leeds United at the moment does not have Swansea City man Joel Piroe at the heart of it. It is instead all about Marseille man Bamba Dieng, whose move to Elland Road was all but done. At the eleventh hour, Nice swooped in and now the Senegalese international is thinking over his options.

Watford and Burnley are two sides who haven’t exactly been quite over the last week or so either. The Clarets have been putting out excellent announcement video after excellent announcement video whereas the Hornets have been more focused on hanging on to players. Emmanuel Dennis may have gone but Joao Pedro is here to stay and Keinan Davis was loaned in from Aston Villa for the season ahead.
