David Ornstein: Chelsea on the Verge of Signing ‘Exceptional’ £82K‐a‐Week Star

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea are on the verge of an agreement to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The latest proposal submitted by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy is believed to be worth around £6.5 million, with left-back Marcus Alonso moving in the opposite direction. The price for the striker has seemingly fallen from the original asking prices that were reported.

Gabon International Suffers Set Back

The Gabon international striker reportedly currently earns around £82k‐a‐week, with talks between the two clubs are moving towards a conclusion, with the “exceptional” striker wanting to play Champions League football.

Chelsea are working on the proposed contract, which is thought to be a two year deal with an option of an additional 12 months based on the player’s percentage of performances in his second year at the club.

A potential setback for the deal occurred when the 33-year-old striker suffered a broken jaw while dealing with a burglary at his home in the Catalan city. The injury occurred as the Barcelona star tried to protect his family from robbers. It is anticipated the injury will keep the striker sidelined for a number of weeks, with the exact length of absence dependent on if surgery is needed.

Gabon Striker to Bolster the Blues

Chelsea have lost Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner this transfer window, with Chelsea identifying Aubameyang as their “priority.” The Catalan giants are in the midst of well-documented financial struggles, which has made the West London club optimistic they can strike a reasonable deal for the ex-Arsenal striker.

He would bring a proven goalscoring record to Chelsea, combined with his excellent movement and explosive speed, seemingly making him a great fit for the Chelsea team and their style of play.

Thomas Tuchel has proven he knows how to get the best out of the Barcelona star when together at Borussia Dortmund, he scored 56 goals in 63 Bundesliga appearances. He then moved to Arsenal, where he showed his class, scoring 92 times in 163 games.
