Manchester United are “fully turning their attention” Cody Gakpo after progressing rapidly in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Casemiro, according to Jason Burt and Mike McGrath of The Telegraph.
Gakpo, who is in his own right an incredible player, would represent United’s prioritised striker signing for this summer following the departures of Edinson Cavani at the end of his contract and Mason Greenwood who is suspended.

What’s the Latest?
United are now hoping to announce their acquisition of Casemiro in the coming days. He will cost close to £60 million, and would be an enormous signing for the Red Devils whose midfield is in desperate need of a refresh.
This has led to their attention now being fully turned to young PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman would join his compatriot Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, and it would take around £34 million for United to prise him away from the Eredivisie side.

Gakpo is not the only attacker being targetted by the Red Devils though. Burt’s report also mentions that Yannick Carrasco of Atletico Madrid is on their radar, and is priced at a bargain £25.5 million.

The aforementioned attacking pair both in themselves represent alternatives to Ajax star Antony, who United recently failed to sign despite a £67.6 million bid.
Many would not be disillusioned with the potential signing of Gakpo though, even if he wasn’t Ten Hag’s first choice. A young striker with an impressive record, he also has something that Manchester United fans will cherish: he has been coached by Old Trafford legend Ruud van Nistelrooy. The PSV manager is renowned for his incredible finishing ability, and under his tutelage, Gakpo will no doubt have learned an awful lot.
