Tottenham Hotspur are interested in raiding Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for their young defenders Mohamed Simakan and Josko Gvardiol, claims Fabrizio Romano. Spurs are looking to sign a new centre-back for Antonio Conte and are thinking about signing from the German League.

Spurs Director Can ‘Pull off Savvy Surprise’
The North London side have been following the development of Simakan for a long time and been impressed by the 22-year-old defender. They also hold Gvardiol in “high esteem” after tracking his impressive performances for the Bundesliga side last season.
Gvardiol made 45 appearances for Leipzig last season, helping them keep 15 clean sheets. Simakan was also featured in 40 games, in which he helped his side keep 13 clean sheets.

However, Spurs are well aware of how difficult it can be to negotiate a deal with a side like Leipzig. They’ll only make a move for either defender depending on their quoted price and the financial demands from all parties for the deal to go through.
The Lilywhites’ sporting director, Fabio Paratici, could have a major say on whether any of these signings can be done. Romano notes that he wouldn’t be shocked if the Italian man is able to ‘pull a surprise out of the hat’ because he is a savvy negotiator in his own right.
Tottenham Manager Conte Craving for New Centre-Back
Spurs boss Conte is desperate to sign new defenders for his side after not being pleased with what he saw from his current options last season. He wasn’t pleased with his side conceding 40 goals in the Premier League last season, having the worst defensive record in the top four.
Spurs are tracking the development of a number of centre-backs as they keep their range of options open for the summer window. They had initially made Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni their top target, but he is going to stay at the club this season.

Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres and Inter’s Milan Skriniar are two more being considered by the Lilywhites for their new centre-back option. Spurs are yet to make a final decision on who they will bring in to reinforce their backline, but they are guaranteed to buy a centre-back because Conte holds it off massive importance to improve his side’s defensive record next season.
