Bastoni, a left-footed centre-back, could be heading to England in the summer window with both United and Spurs having made a move to sign the player from Serie A.

According to Gianluca DiMarzio, the North London side have initiated talks with the player and the club, but are yet to make an official offer. DiMarzio also reports that Manchester United have today made a move for the same player. Having made 31 appearances this season, the defender seems to be happy in Italy, but wouldn’t be opposed to a move.

Specifically, Bastoni could link back up with familiar personel should he move to Spurs. The defender worked with Antonio Conte when he was the manager at the San Siro, and he forged a strong partnership with Ivan Perisic during the 2020/21 title-winning season. Spurs have already brought in Perisic, so there is certainly an incentive for the 23-year-old to leave Milan and link up with his former teammate and boss.

United have also today made a move for Bastoni. The Red Devils are also in need of a left-footed defender, and thus the Inter Milan man ticks all the boxes for Eric ten Hag’s side.

United would have to best any bid made by Spurs, although neither side has yet tabled an official bid. Also, the fact that United finished 6th in the Premier League last season, and therefore will only be in the Europa League next campaign, will go against them. Spurs secured Champions League football, which is also very attractive for Bastoni.
