Sevilla president Jose Castro has provided an update on the future of Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.
Martial, 26, joined the La Liga side on loan in January 2022 and has had an underwhelming spell in Spain.
With no option to buy involved in the deal, Sevilla would have to negotiate any transfer were they interested, however, it appears they are not.

No Sevilla Future for Martial
Martial has scored just one goal since joining Sevilla in January, it came in the Europa League v Dinamo Zagreb. He has failed to score in nine La Liga appearances. Granted, his spell has also been interrupted by injury, but that will also stand against him securing a move to the Spanish club, whom he reportedly chose to join over Barcelona and Juventus.
Sevilla president Jose Castro has provided the clearest indication yet on Martial’s future, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, he said: “Anthony Martial will return to Man United. We spent important money on him but it didn’t work – also, he had injuries and we’re not gonna buy him on a permanent deal.”
Martial is a player with plenty of talent at his best but he has so long struggled for consistency. To add to that, at the age of 26, it’s still unclear what his best position is. He can play in the left forward position or centrally and often when he plays one, he convinces you he prefers the other – which just enhances his struggle for consistency.
It’s not clear whether there is a place for him at Manchester United in the coming season. New manager Erik ten Hag may want to keep him around but Martial left of his own accord in the winter window and may take some persuading.
His potential sale could also help United acquire further targets as they embark on likely wholesale changes this summer.
Martial has scored 79 goals and assisted 50 in 269 appearances for Manchester United.
