Mega Budget Shows New Owners Serious

Even for Chelsea, a £200m budget is huge and shows serious ambitions from their incoming American owners. Thomas Tuchel has remained patient throughout a testing situation full of uncertainty for the former Paris Saint-Germain boss and it looks like he will be rewarded.

According to the report, the £200m budget does factor in some anticipated player sales.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tedd Boehly’s takeover of Chelsea moved a step closer when the Premier League approved the sale. The deal now awaits a green light from the government but all seems positive as it stands.

Jules Kounde and Josko Gvardiol are said to be near the top of Chelsea’s shortlist as they look to add to their defence with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving.

Gap to Bridge

Chelsea finished the Premier League season in third place, 19 points below champions Manchester City and have a gap to bridge if they want to reach the top of the table next season.

The Blues started the last campaign with suggestions they could compete with Liverpool and Manchester City for the title but couldn’t sustain their effort and finished tailed off in that fight, though relatively comfortably clear of the rest even if they did only finish three points clear of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Tuchel’s side were also runners-up in both the League Cup and FA Cup – losing both on penalties to Liverpool.

Clearly, they are closer to the top two than most but they will be bidding to ensure that the league is not so exclusive to the northwest of England as soon as possible.
