Antonio Rudiger Joins Real Madrid

Antonio Rudiger

In a move that many people have been expecting Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is on his way to Real Madrid on a free transfer, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Romano has stated that Rudiger has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until June of 2026.

A Long Time Coming

Antonio Rudiger has been linked with a move away from Chelsea for some time now. With the defender’s contract coming up he was linked with a number of teams including Juventus, Real Madrid, and a major premier league club.  Chelsea fans were likely resigned to losing the defender some time ago, especially once sanctions were brought in against the club that prevented them from registering new contracts. While Rudiger was happy to state his loyalty to Chelsea in interviews, it quickly became clear that the English side would have a tough time convincing him to stay.

Quality Signing

Losing Antonio Rudiger is a big blow for Chelsea and one that they will not find easy to replace. For Real Madrid, he is an instant upgrade to their center-back pairing, presumably, Nacho Fernandez will be the one to make way for the German international. With his strength, pace, attitude, and ability in the air Rudiger is a defender who makes life difficult for the opposition’s attacking force. In addition to that, he is very capable when bringing the ball forward and can make darting runs through the middle of the field at any time to break the opposition’s set-up. With Real Madrid’s counter-attacking prowess Rudiger will likely add to their threat with his unpredictability and forward passing abilities.

With Real Madrid already walking to the league title this season and making it deep into Europe, the addition of Antonio Rudiger to the side will only make them better, which is a scary proposition for everybody who has to compete with them.
