Star Barcelona Centre-Back to Sign Bumper New Contract

Barcelona centre-back

Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo will sign a contract renewal with the club after positive talks, according to Fabrizio Romano. The length of the contract is still being worked on, but it will likely be until June 2026.

Romano also mentions that Araujo attracted plenty of other interest, particularly from Premier League teams. The English sides offered large salaries, but Barcelona was always the only club on Araujo’s mind.

The Player and the Fit

Araujo has been part of the Barcelona senior squad since 2019, albeit with some Barcelona B stints in between. Opportunities have neither easily nor frequently presented themselves for Araujo, but he has continued to work hard regardless. The results are certainly showing as he’s performing excellently this season.

He has achieved 23 La Liga appearances and four league goals since August having has been a starter in over 60 per cent of the games he has played. He has also been used in five of Barcelona’s six Champions League group stage matches this campaign.

Club manager Xavi is changing Barcelona week by week after a horrid start to the season, and he clearly sees Araujo as an important piece of the project going forward having trusted him to play an integral part in the Spanish giants’ backline since his arrival from Saudi Arabian side Al Sadd.

Other central defenders in the team at Camp Nou include Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, and Eric Garcia. In addition, Barcelona are closing in on Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen. With the summer window still a couple of months away, it remains too early to know what Barcelona’s full squad will look like when the 2022/23 campaign kicks off. There could be plenty more change happening, especially in the defence.

With that being said, Araujo has firmly cemented his spot within Xavi’s new-look Barcelona side. He holds the trust of both his boss and the fans, and this has now resulted in a contract renewal.
