AC Milan have made an approach for Liverpool striker Divock Origi, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Belgian is not extending his contract with Liverpool and his current deal with the English club expires in June. Milan is quite confident in the deal and pushing to complete the agreement.
AC Milan Approaching Liverpool Striker Divock Origi
The Player and the Fit
Origi has appeared in 10 Premier League and Champions League matches for Liverpool this season. To date, he has three goals and one assist in those appearances.
The numbers don’t jump off the page, but Origi is playing in a stacked attacking line. Time on the pitch is difficult to come by. He’s been with Liverpool since 2018/19 and has never quite excelled. Again, this is due to his back-up role. Origi has had some solid performances for the Belgian National Team as well but isn’t the first option up-front due to the presence of Romelu Lukaku.
Origi, however, is still just 26-years-old. The striker is about to enter his prime and Milan looks to be a good landing spot.
Milan’s current strikers are Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. As good as their careers have been, the duo are ageing. Milan desperately need to inject some youth into the position. Ibrahimovic and Giroud are playing decently this season, but injuries have slowed them down. Ante Rebic, naturally a winger, can play striker as well but he’s spent the majority of the season sidelined. Milan need a striker to help and Origi brings it.
Should Origi sign with Milan, he may not be first choice. Ibrahimovic and Giroud will still get plenty of starting nods, especially in matches of high importance. With that being said, Milan’s attacking depth is not as crowded as that of Liverpool. Origi will get his chances at Milan, who are competitive once again.
