As per Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool face a race against the clock to secure Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho. The Reds have reportedly reached an agreement with Fulham regarding the fee, but have until 11pm to agree personal terms with the player and get a medical done.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is worth €10 million, and will be a five year contract. The midfielder will also go back to Fulham on loan.
If they can seal the deal in time, Liverpool would have had themselves a January transfer window to remember. First came surprising transfer of Luis Diaz. Then, pending completion, they set their sights on Carvalho. They’ve acted clinically and efficiently this month.
Liverpool in Race Against Time to Sign Fabio Carvalho
Preparing for the Future
One thing that has been made clear from this window, is the fact that Liverpool have started preparing for the future. The arrival of Diaz – a man that will one day likely replace Sadio Mane – significantly boosted that preparation. The signing of Carvalho, if completed, with only boost the progress at Anfield, too.
One of, if not the highest-rated teenager in the Championship, Liverpool fans will be excited about the potential prospect of seeing the midfielder at Anfield. If he’s anything like the previous player they welcomed from Fulham (Harvey Elliott), then they’re in for a treat.
As things stand, Liverpool look on course to complete the deal. But they must act fast. They cannot risk losing out when in such a good position. Carvalho may just prove to be one of the signings of the season when considering the long term impact he can have.
Liverpool seem aware that a transitional period is on the horizon. And, unlike in previous years, look certain to avoid a fall off when going through that period. All of a sudden, even as the post-Klopp era nears, the Reds look ready to continue on their upwards trajectory for years to come.
