According to Mark McAdam, Bournemouth have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign defender Nat Phillips on loan for the rest of the season. The Cherries, in the middle of a promotion battle, will welcome the 24-year-old with open arms.

Deserved Move

When Liverpool needed a new hero, Nat Phillips stepped up in abundance last season. Out from the shadows and into the floodlights of Anfield, the centre-back played a pivotal part as the Reds secured Champions League football against the odds.

In truth, a move always looked on the cards, whether permanent or a loan, but the right offer never came until Bournemouth’s approach. Phillips should instantly improve Scott Parker’s side, too, who have a mix of experience and youthful exuberance at the back.

Phillips will be particularly hoping to learn from Gary Cahill. The veteran defender has won it all throughout his illustrious career – from the Champions League to two Premier League titles.

Liverpool, meanwhile, haven’t necessarily needed Phillips for a while now. The signing of Ibrahima Konate, plus the lack of injury crisis within the backline has seen the defender drop down the pecking order once more.

The defender potentially leaves as somewhat of a cult hero. Whenever fans think back to the 20/21 season, Nat Phillips is the player they will think of, and his performances against the likes of Manchester United to help the Reds on their way to top four.

As things stand, Bournemouth sit third in the Championship, one point adrift of second placed Blackburn Rovers. They will be hoping to see a positive difference if they land the signing of Phillips, however, with promotion back to the top flight a bigger goal than ever. It’s certainly a realistic aim. Now, they must ensure that they reach that goal.
