Juventus are keeping tabs on two midfielders should one of Arthur Melo or Rodrigo Bentancur depart the club, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Old Lady are monitoring Denis Zakaria of Borussia Mönchengladbach and Nahitan Nandez of Cagliari. Arthur is being watched by Arsenal, although a possible deal is losing traction while Bentancur is generating interest from Aston Villa.
Juventus Watching Two Midfielders
The Players and the Need
Zakaria is one of the top defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga. He constantly shines for Mönchengladbach as well as the Switzerland national team. Due to this, Juventus are not the only team interested. Manchester United are keeping tabs on the player as well. Zakaria is also 25-years-old. He’s ready to start for most teams in the present and the foreseeable future.
Nandez is one year older than Zakaria. He plays in Serie A, making Juventus more familiar to him. Nandez has been a part of the Cagliari first team since 2019. He’s approaching his time for a switch to a bigger club. He’s a do-it-all kind of midfielder. Nandez can play as a defensive or holding midfielder, but also has the ability to play outside or in a more attacking role.
The midfield has been an issue at Juventus for the last couple of seasons. Italian Manuel Locatelli and American Weston McKennie have cemented their places in the team’s starting line-up, although the other players available remain interchangeable. This includes Arthur, Bentancur, Adrien Rabiot, and Aaron Ramsey.
Juventus also just completed a massive deal for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. It wouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise to see the club attempt to recoup some funds/clear some wages by selling a midfielder. If they do, then they’ll likely attempt to bring in a replacement on a more affordable contract.
With the club just outside of the top four in Italy, Juventus will be busy in the final days of the transfer window.
