River Plate Striker Julian Alvarez in Talks With Manchester City
Julian Alvarez Would Not Join City This Month
Should talks be successful between the player and the two clubs, Julian Alvarez would still not join City this transfer window. According to Fabrizio Romano, the striker would join later this year with River requesting that he remains on loan with them until June or possibly November; however, City could look to loan him elsewhere.
Who is River Plate’s Wonderkid?
21-year-old striker Julian Alvarez, who can also play as a winger, is the current South American Footballer of the Year. He made his debut for River Plate at 18, but over the next three seasons, his appearances were fleeting. Last campaign, however, he cemented his place in the first team with a succession of impressive performances which brought 22 goals and 17 assists to help his club with the Argentinian title.
The 20 occasions on which he netted in the league made him the top scorer in the Primera Division. These goals plus his assists saw him named the best player in South America and earn a place in the Argentina national side.
River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo has been impressed with the youngster since he became a regular in his side. He said: “He is a very versatile player who is willing to play anywhere and take on a lot of responsibility. Right now he is on the cusp of becoming a very important player.”
City have been looking for a new striker since Alvarez’s fellow countryman and City’s all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero departed for Barcelona last summer.
