Why Paulo Dybala’s Future At Juventus Remains Uncertain
Contract Decision Will Wait
The reports of Dybala and whether he will or will not sign a new contract continue to change day to day and it appears that his future is going to remain undecided for now. Romano understands that there has been a three month verbal agreement in place with Dybala to extend his current deal with Juventus but there has been a change of heart leaving the player in a limbo situation.
Manchester United and Tottenham Among Clubs on Red Alert
Dybala’s current deal in Turin comes to an end at the close of the 2021/22 Serie A season which means he is already free to start pre contract negotiations with clubs not based in Italy. The news that the deal has not yet been signed will have clubs looking to move in and Manchester United and Tottenham have both been long term admirers of the forward. The 28 year old is not keen to wait for Juventus to make up their minds and is now said to be ready to listen to offers from abroad.
United were reportedly close to signing Dybala in 2019 in a cash plus player deal involving Romelu Lukaku going the other way but that never materialised with United not inclined to meet the Argentinian’s wage demands.
Injury
Dybala has been struggling with a muscle injury this season but has still managed 20 appearances in all competitions with nine goals to his name.
The Curse of The Verbal Agreement
Dybala may well have fallen foul of the verbal agreement in a similar way to Harry Kane whose desired move to Manchester City in the summer transfer window never happened with Kane unhappy that his move was blocked after he believed he had a verbal agreement to leave with Spurs chairmen Daniel Levy.
It now remains to be seen if Dybala sees out his contract at Juventus or if he makes a move before the end of January.
