Theo Hernandez has been nothing short of spectacular since joining AC Milan. His talent is widely noticed, and he’s on his way to a well-deserved contract extension, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“Talks are underway for my contract extension with AC Milan. We’re at a good point – negotiations are progressing, I’m so happy here since day one,” Hernandez said to Sky Sport.
Theo Hernandez Inching Towards Contract Extension
An Excellent Combination
Theo Hernandez joined Milan in 2019. He was playing for Real Madrid beforehand and just finished up a loan at Real Sociedad. His Real Madrid ties meant he was talented, and he was identified by Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini. This, of course, means a lot. First off, Maldini receives trust like no other from Milan faithful. Secondly, Maldini played as a left-back so he certainly knows a thing or two about the position.
Since arriving, the Frenchman has cemented his place as the top left-back in Serie A and one of the best in world football. He also fits Milan manager Stefano Pioli’s system quite well. Pioli loves attacking fullbacks and it’s difficult to find one better than Hernandez. The Frenchman dashes throughout the pitch with ease, whips in beautiful and pinpoint crosses and has a terrorising long shot. More than that, he constantly positions himself in an area to score. This was clear in Milan’s recent 3-0 victory over Venezia where Hernandez bagged a brace.
Although playing as a defender, Hernandez has four goals and five assists in 17 league matches. Last season he produced seven goals and six assists in 33 matches, so he’s on pace to beat that.
Hernandez is also just 24-years-old. He has potentially up to another decade of high-level playing. Milan found themselves a fullback gem, and extending him must be the top priority. Milan’s youth core is strong and Hernandez is at the centre of it all.
