Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi hopes to see key players Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic extend their deals with the Serie A champions.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Inzaghi would also be interested in signing Uruguayan midfielder Nahitan Nandez from domestic rivals Cagliari. Inzaghi has described the prospect of recruiting the 25-year-old as “an interesting opportunity for [the club] in January”.
Inter Milan: Simone Inzaghi Hopes Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic Sign New Contracts
Both Players Thought to be Happy at the San Siro
Croatian midfielder Brozovic has been with Inter since 2016, and has one year left to run on his contract. The 29-year-old made 33 league appearances last season as the Nerazzurri ended Juventus’ nine-year reign as Serie A champions, and has continued to play a key role in the side this season under Inzaghi.
Fellow Croatia international Perisic played an equally important role in Inter’s title triumph last season, making 32 Serie A appearances in 2020/21. The left-winger, who spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Bayern Munich, is also under contract at the San Siro until summer 2022.
When discussing the pair, Inter boss Inzaghi was effusive in his praise. He said: “I want Marcelo Brozovic to sign his new contract soon; he’s happy at Inter.
“I also hope Ivan Perisic will sign extend his contract very soon.”
Inter in Line to Defend Serie A Crown
Despite storming to the title under Antonio Conte last season, debate has raged as to whether Inter Milan would be able to defend their Scudetto this time around.
Conte left the club in the summer after disagreements with the board over its transfer policy, which saw striker Romelu Lukaku sold to Chelsea in order to raise funds.
Under new manager Inzaghi, however, the club have not looked back, and currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the table. Additionally, Inter have won their last seven Serie A matches, and have not dropped points in the league since a 1-1 draw with AC Milan in early November.
