Incoming Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick reportedly wants the club to sign Timo Werner from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer.
According to BILD Sport head of football Christian Falk, Ragnick – who signed Werner for former club RB Leipzig and played a crucial role in the player’s development – enjoys a close relationship with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, which makes any potential transfer more feasible.

Werner Has Struggled at Stamford Bridge
Germany international Werner arrived at Chelsea to much fanfare in July 2020, but has struggled to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge.
Despite being blessed with blistering speed and intelligent movement, the striker has been guilty of squandering several big chances during his time in English football, and has only found the net 15 times across 64 appearances for the Blues.
Additionally, the 25-year-old looks unlikely to be given the opportunity to nail down a position as a central striker for the London club, who re-signed Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku in a club-record deal last summer.
However, Rangnick has clearly not lost faith in his former player’s talents, and would appear keen to make Werner a central piece in the Old Trafford revolution he will oversee, first as a manager and then as part of the club’s board. Once his work visa is approved, the 63-year-old will take over as Manchester United’s interim manager until the end of the season, before advising the club’s board on a consultancy basis over the following two years.
Rangnick Also Interested in Christopher Nkunku
Another player Falk has revealed Rangnivk would like to bring to Old Trafford is 24-year-old attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku, who currently plays for RB Leipzig after singing for the club in 2019.
Ragnick has been a known admirer of Nkunku for some time, and tried to bring him to Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, before the player made the switch a year later.
Once his stint as Manchester United’s interim manager comes to an end, Rangnick will also be involved in the decision to choose a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked in November following a dismal start to the season.
