Brighton’s Moises Caicedo Moves on Loan to Beerschot

Attracting a Lot of Interest Last January

During January 2021, there were countless reports linking Caicedo to various big sides, including many from the Premier League.

One notable name on the list of teams thought to be interested in the Ecuadorian youngster was Manchester United.

The Red Devils are known for their fantastic academy. It currently consists of a plethora of highly talented young players, including midfielders Hannibal Mejbri, James Garner, Ethan Galbraith, and Dylan Levitt. Others who look to have what it takes to go all the way to the top include Charlie McNeil, Joe Hugill, and Teden Mengi. Caicedo could have been a good addition to their roster, however, no reports of great reliability ever said that a deal was close to being completed.

Instead, South Coast side Brighton and Hove Albion were able to pick him up for £4.5 million, with some impressive performances for Ecuadorian giants Independiente del Valle having attracted their attention.

Brighton Trying to Fix Finishing Issue

While Caicedo moves to Beerschot in attempt to help the wonderkid gain valuable senior experience, Brighton have also completed multiple signings to try to fix their issue with finishing.

The Seagulls were notoriously vastly underperforming their expected points (derived from expected goals, or xG) last campaign, and so this summer has been all about trying to fix that problem, as well as replacing outgoing players such as Ben White.

Attackers like Marc Cucurella and Abdallah Sima have put pen to paper on transfers to the Amex Stadium over the past couple of months. The latter’s stats are especially impressive, having scored 11 league goals off the right-wing for Slavia Prague last season despite being just 20 years of age.

An emphasis appears to have been put on youth of late at Brighton, and the signing of Caicedo, who will spend the rest of the season with Beerschot, reflects that initiative perfectly.
