In an incredible turn of events, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Erling Haaland as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, as reported by Matt Law of The Telegraph. Mbappe has been the subject of interest from Real Madrid, who recently submitted an improved offer for the French star, in the region of €170 million.
With Mbappe keen on a move to the Bernabeu, PSG are turning to another generational talent as his replacement. Erling Haaland is arguably the hottest prospect in football right now, and PSG are keen to add him to their growing list of superstars.
Paris Saint-Germain Interested in Erling Haaland to Replace Kylian Mbappe
PSG Eyeing up Haaland
Not much can be said about Erling Haaland that isn’t already common knowledge. He has made 63 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since joining midway through the 2019/20 season and scored 62 goals. It is evident why, should they lose Mbappe, PSG would turn to Haaland as his replacement.
A €75 million release clause for Haaland comes into effect next season, but PSG could fork out a huge sum to bring the Norwegian to Paris this summer. Chelsea looked favourites to acquire Haaland this summer but were not willing to pay €175 million to acquire him. If anyone could afford to pay that sort of money, it’s PSG.
However, Haaland’s super-agent, Mino Raiola, could make the move difficult to accomplish. According to Christian Falk, Raiola demanded that Haaland earn €50 million per year, as well as an additional €40 million for himself in agent fees. Again though, if anyone can afford it, it’s PSG.
It’s turning into a transfer window for the ages, and PSG are the winners so far. They’ve only splashed the cash on Achraf Hakimi; yet they have also added Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, and of course, Lionel Messi, all on ‘free’ transfers. Adding Erling Haaland to the mix, albeit at the expense of Kylian Mbappe, would conclude a staggering summer of transfers.
