Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne would be ‘unavailable for a while’. The Spaniard confirmed the news to BBC Sport ahead of their Community Shield final against Leicester City.

A Loss for The Citizens Ahead of New Season
Kevin De Bruyne suffered ankle ligament damage at the European Championship. The 3o-year-old played against Italy, despite having a tear. Now, the Belgian international will miss the opening stages of the 2021/22 season.
Phil Foden is also facing a spell on the sideline. The 21-year-old missed England’s European Championship final against Italy due to a foot problem and now, like his Belgian teammate, Foden will be unavailable for selection as the new campaign begins.
Despite last season being far from his best, De Bruyne will be a huge loss for City. Foden who had a strong campaign last time out, will also be missed, as they are two creative players who are often pivotal in the centre of the park for Pep Guardiola’s side.
City play Leicester City in the Community Shield Final today, and during the week, the club confirmed the signing of Jack Grealish. The 25-year-old signed from Aston Villa for a record-breaking £100m.
However, the former Villa player will start on the bench in the Community Shield Final. Guardiola said the England international is not ready, after only a week of training, but there is a chance the record-signing could make his debut during the final.
City do not appear to be done with their business in the window, so it will be interesting to see how they work around the absences of Foden and De Bruyne, as they look to finally secure the quadruple this season.
