Looking to Gain First-Team Experience

Bowden, a Republic of Ireland U19 international, makes the step down the football pyramid to Oldham in League Two in order to bolster his first team experience.

He spent pre-season with Spurs’ senior team under Nuno Espirito Santo and appeared for 26 minutes in a friendly against Leyton Orient in July.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the majority of the 2020/21 campaign in Tottenham’s U23 side, but has also spent some time around the senior team in training. For the youth team last season, Bowden made 15 appearances while scoring twice.

He featured on Spurs team sheet for the first time in February, after being named on the bench for a Europa League round of 32 fixture against Austrian outfit Wolfsberger in February.

Bowden will wear the number 18 shirt at Boundary Park.

What Was Said?

Speaking on his new loan signing, Oldham manager Keith Curle said: “Since he came on Monday morning he’s trained with us as a group and we can see why he’s come with great references and why his club rate him so highly.

“He’s extremely confident and comfortable on the ball and I’m sure he’ll make the most of this opportunity. It’s a brand new challenge and he knows how important he could potentially be to this team. He just needs to keep working hard and put into practice all the experiences he’s already had at a very young age.”

Oldham kick off their 2021/22 campaign by hosting last season’s play-off finalists Newport County at Boundary Park this afternoon.
