Southampton Searching for Danny Ings Replacement

Danny Ings Replacement

Following the shock departure of their star striker, Southampton are now searching for Danny Ings replacement with the new Premier League season drawing ever nearer starting on August 14.

Danny Ings Replacement Search Begins

Three Players Under Consideration

Dan Sheldon of The Athletic has reported that Southampton are looking at three potential replacement for striker Danny Ings whose move to Aston Villa on seemed to come out of the blue leaving the south coast club struggling for options in attack ahead of the new Premier League season.

Adam Armstrong

Armstrong has been attracting interest from the Saints for some time with the club having an £8 million bid rejected earlier in the transfer window. Blackburn Rovers are not keen to sell and will only entertain offers upwards of £20 million for their prized asset. Southampton have around £30 million to spend following Ings departure so Rovers are unlikely to entertain low offers knowing that their asking price can be met.

Tammy Abraham

Abraham enjoyed a successful loan spell at Aston Villa during the 2018/19 Championship season where he scored 26 goals in just 40 appearances and Chelsea now look set to let the player leave Stamford Bridge, providing the £40 million valuation is met. Southampton are said to be considering a loan move for Abraham, but Chelsea are intent on selling the player as he has become surplus to manager Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Alexander Sorloth

Another potential signing, according to Sheldon, is that of Alexander Sorloth who plays for RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga. Sorloth has played in the Premier League previously at Crystal Palace and would be interested in a new opportunity to show that he can produce in England’s highest level of football.

Danny Ings Replacement Needs to Be Found Quickly

Losing Ings so close to the start of the new season gives manager Ralph Hasenhuttl a huge headache and a replacement needs to be found urgently, and it needs to be someone who can provide the goals that they have now lost with the Ings departure.

Abraham ticks many of the boxes as he has Premier League experience, a solid goal scoring pedigree and could be the ideal replacement, but Southampton need to act quickly to ensure the new season doesn’t start in turmoil.
