Northampton Town have signed Kion Etete on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, with the striker agreeing a new contract with Spurs until 2023.
The 19-year-old had been spending pre-season with Spurs’ senior side but will link up with the Cobblers in League Two to gain regular first-team experience.

Etete Returns to League Two
The signing of Etete comes as Northampton’s 12th addition this summer following the club’s relegation last season.
Etete joins having some prior familiarity with the style of play in League Two, having come through the ranks at Notts County in the 2018/19 season. In that campaign, Etete registered four appearances before signing for Spurs in July 2019.
Since arriving in North London, the striker has featured prominently in Spurs’ youth set-up. Last season, Etete notched nine goals and four assists in 21 games for Tottenham’s U23s, which no doubt attracted the interest of Northampton.
However, Etete has faced stiff competition up front since arriving at Tottenham, with the likes of Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett having featured for the first team ahead of him.
What Was Said
Speaking to the club’s website, Northampton manager Jon Brady said: “Kion is a player we have tracked closely and watched a number of times.
“We think he will be a different type of threat for us and can work well with the other strikers at the club. He is good with his back to goal, his link-up play is very effective and he provides a goal threat himself.
“I think it is a big tick for the club, the coaching structure we have in place and the staff we have here that Tottenham believe this is the best place for Kion to continue his development. There was a lot of interest in Kion, some from clubs in higher leagues, and we are delighted that he is joining us.
“We believe he will do well for us and that this move will benefit all parties.”
