Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott has joined League One side MK Dons on a season-long loan. The 19-year-old had two loan spells last season at Millwall and Ipswich Town respectively, scoring twice for the latter.

In Need of Minutes

There had been times in the past when Parrott was mentioned as a potential understudy to Harry Kane at Spurs. Truthfully, that would have been too much for him at that age, but there is still a lot of time for him to make the grade there.

His loan spell to Millwall last season was expected to be the point where he showed what he could do, but it didn’t quite go to plan and he only made 14 appearances across all competitions before ending the spell early and going back to Tottenham in January.

He then dropped down a division to join Ipswich and made a respectable 18 appearances in League One, scoring two goals during that time as the Tractor Boys struggled to a mid-table finish.

At MK Dons, he will be part of a team eyeing up the promotion (or play-off, at least) spots and the style of play used under Russell Martin will give him plenty of opportunities to score – it will just be down to him to finish them.

Competition

MK Dons have recruited heavily in the forward positions this summer. Carlton Morris left for Barnsley in January, Cameron Jerome went to Luton Town after not signing a new deal and Will Grigg returned to Sunderland at the end of his loan.

Their first forward signing was the addition of Max Watters on loan from Cardiff City and they then added Mohamed Eisa after he signed on a long-term deal from Peterborough United.

Meanwhile, Charlie Brown remains from last season, Josh Martin is an option despite being more likely to play at wing-back in this system, and youngster Jay Bird has had an excellent pre-season.

Parrott’s addition to this group is welcome and will provide excellent competition as well as undoubted quality when he gets time on the pitch.
