The Telegraph’s John Percy has reported on that Steve Cooper will depart Swansea City with an official announcement expected later this week.
Cooper led the Swans to the Championship play off final against Brentford at the end of the 2020/21 campaign where they lost to Brentford. He was in charge as Swansea beat Plymouth Argyle away on Tuesday July 20 but is now set to leave the club.

Following the friendly win at Plymouth, Cooper was asked about his future and had this to say via Wales online: ”There’s no official updates on anything. You know I don’t like talking about myself so let’s focus on the boys. I’m here, I’m working hard. I think you could see tonight [against Plymouth] through the good and some of the not so good moments, you could see that the players are trying.”
The cryptic reply left many Swansea fans concerned over the future of the manager who has been at the Liberty Stadium for two years and previously admitted hid pride for the work he has done in that time: “There’s nobody that could have worked any harder than me over the last two years because I’ve been so proud to be a part of this brilliant football club and that’s how I feel exactly at this moment in time.”
Time Now of the Essence in New Manager Search
Swansea start the new Championship season away at Blackburn Rovers on August 7 in a season where they’ll be hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League. The timing of this news could not be worse, however, and it leaves very little time to get a new manager installed for the start of the season.
The Championship is always a difficult league to negotiate. Entering without a manager with just weeks before it kicks off makes it almost impossible, however.
