According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are ready to play the long game in order to secure the services of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers in Erling Haaland.
Chelsea Patient on Erling Haaland
The Complexities of a Deal to Take Erling Haaland to Chelsea
Fresh from winning last seasons’ Champions League, Chelsea are an attractive proposition for any top player. And in Haaland, Chelsea would have their box office signing. Fuelled by success and greater finances, a deal would be possible for The Blues to secure the highly coveted signature of the Norwegian. However, his current club Borussia Dortmund are in no rush to sell their talismanic striker, even preferring to let Jadon Sancho go this summer.
What the Likely Cost to Sign Haaland May Be?
There have been many figures quoted for a deal to be done. Most recently a figure of 120 million pounds is thought to be enough to snare him from Dortmund. As is well documented, Haaland has a release clause due to kick in next summer, reported to be around 75 million pounds.
A Win-Win-Win Scenario
All three parties could come up with a plan whereby the player and both clubs could come to find a reasonable agreement. It is clear that the German side want to keep their player for another season. Also, Chelsea want to negotiate the best deal possible. From the player’s perspective, little is known. However, it seems the prospect of playing Premier League football is the most appetising. Therefore, all three parties could come to a happy medium of Haaland joining the Blues in 2022.
That way everyone is happy – in a situation where Dortmund keep their star man a year longer, Chelsea get a better financial deal, and Haaland, who is still only 20, can develop another year in Germany playing Champions League football. Chelsea could also throw in a sweetener of giving them a player or two to compensate for the much smaller fee. In football, there are always solutions when one really wants one.
Stratospheric Statistics
Haaland burst onto the scene in 2019 with his rampaging run of goals at Red Bull Salzburg. His 17 goals in just 16 appearances awoke the attention of Europe’s top brass clubs. Meanwhile, it was Dortmund who ultimately won the race. And the striker has excelled further in Germany. ‘The Terminator’, as he is known, has terminated many an opposition. His record of 57 goals in 59 games is simply astonishing. The voracity of his goals, many times in doubles and hat-tricks, marks him out as an outstanding talent of his generation. Last season alone, he scored a remarkable 41 goals in 41 games. Domestically, Haaland netted 27 goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances.
And in his fabled Champions League, he scored a ridiculous ten times in just eight matches. Crazy numbers. He is the top scorer in the tournament history after 15 games with figures that even Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo cannot match. How he loves to hear that Champions League hymn and will do so again next season
The question is: Will he be hearing that hymn playing in the colours of Chelsea come 2022?
