Talks Between Nuno Espírito Santo and Crystal Palace Break Down

Nuno Espírito Santo

In a shocking turn of events, talks between Nuno Espírito Santo and Crystal Palace have broken down, according to Sam Wallace of the Telegraph . The deal looked certain to go through. It seemed it was only a matter of time before we’d see the former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager at Selhurst Park.

Palace fans will be gutted to here the latest reports having been optimistic about the future. Espírito Santo is the perfect man to rebuild the side; to take them to new heights. After extensive talks, an agreement has not been reached, however. This leaves Crystal Palace without a manager with the search set to begin all over again.

Talks Between Nuno Espírito Santo and Palace Break Down

Back to Step One for Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace must now go again. They must head all the way back to step one. And they must get the next decision spot on. If they fail to get it right, the risk of an ultimate downfall will be high. The fear will be that, should they make a mistake as big as appointing Frank de Boar a few years back, relegation battles will loom.

Players such as Wilfried Zaha may share the same concern. Such is his ambition, the appointment of a poor manager could well signal his exit. Nuno Espírito Santo could have convinced the top players to stay put as he rebuilds. His Cv certainly backs that argument.

The Portuguese manager took Wolves from the Championship all the way to a European quarter-final in the space of four years. At Palace, he could have overseen a similar turnaround. Now that talks have reportedly broken down, however, Palace may struggle to find an alternative with the expertise of Espírito Santo.

The likes of Eddie Howe are available, but it’s yet to be seen whether Palace pursue the former Bournemouth manager.
