It’s fair to say it has been a busy week so far when it comes to Liverpool transfer news. A deal for Ibrahima Konate is set to be completed, according to James Pearce of the Athletic– signalling a sigh of relief for many fans who were desperate for a central defender. Meanwhile, Pearce also stated that fringe players such as Divock Origi, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic all top the list of potential departures this summer.
The news doesn’t stop there, either, with Alisson Becker and Caoimhim Kelleher set to sign new contracts. Similarly, talks with Adrian are ongoing with his future still uncertain. So it very much seems as though it’s a summer of clearing deadwood at Liverpool, and this won’t upset the majority of the fans.
In truth, the club are due a clear out. The likes of Origi are past their sell-by dates; they have had their moments. Top clubs stay at the top by transitioning and making difficult decisions. And, by the looks of it, Liverpool’s priority is to remain at the top.

A Summer Liverpool Must Get Right
As seen by the Liverpool transfer news, the Reds are certainly on the right tracks. Key players such as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are set to stay whilst those unneeded are set to leave. In previous years, the Reds have failed to transition after success, but it looks like they’ve finally learnt from that mistake.
Klopp began a transitional period last summer in regards to personnel and playing staff only for this to be disrupted through injury. The arrival of Thiago Alcantara signalled change in the way the midfield would play. Klopp’s aim, with Thiago, was to replicate Manchester City’s possession based game. Once next to Fabinho, we began to see glimpses of the success a different system could have.
The signing of Diogo Jota all but put an end to any game time for Origi and brought a tint of youth to the frontline. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger has since been a revelation, scoring nine goals in 19 Premier League games and making a strong case to make that front three, a front four.
Injury delayed the transitional period, that’s unquestionable, but only by a year. Liverpool still finished third. Now imagine what they can do with a fully fit squad without the anchor of deadwood.
Wilson and Grujic Deserve Good Moves
Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic have more than earned themselves a good move after successful loan spells. Some may even argue that they deserve a chance at Anfield, but it simply isn’t to be. Both could prove to be formidable assets for mid-table clubs in the Premier League.
Grujic has European experience at Porto and impressed when at Hertha Berlin. Meanwhile, Wilson scored seven goals for Bournemouth when in the Premier League before registering 19 goal involvements on loan at Cardiff City in the Championship. In fact, only Michael Olise and Emi Buendia assisted more goals.
The likes of Watford and Norwich City may be watching on this summer as he looks for a suitable move.
All in all, it has been a positive week for Liverpool in regards to transfer news, with key players staying and potentially joining as much-needed departures grow ever-likely.
